How to Create a Personalized DIY Nursery Room Sign

Updated: 3 days ago

Nursery with baby name sign

As a parent, I've been captivated by the abundance of charming DIY nursery personalized signs. The allure of those chic wooden pieces, adorned with elegant fonts and delicate floral patterns, is simply irresistible!

These signs are not just decorative; they're versatile and can incorporate the nursery theme or room colors. The personalized name or message adds a unique touch to the decor, making it truly one-of-a-kind. Whether it's a baby's name, a heartfelt message, or a favorite quote, you can choose from a variety of designs, fonts, and colors to perfectly match the style of the room.

Not only do these signs look adorable, but they also make wonderful keepsakes that can be treasured for years to come. Personalized nursery signs are a delightful way to add a personal and heartfelt touch to your little one's room.

I was thrilled that the stars aligned when my pint-sized buddy hit the big 6 and imagined a room revamp. Seizing the chance, I crafted a custom sign just for her space.

Of course, I absolutely love crafting paper flowers, and I'm all about floral vibes, especially the classic charm of rose patterns. Not only are they a fun and relaxing activity, but they also add such a beautiful touch to any space. Muted or vibrant colors can truly steal the show and bring joy and creativity to any room. Whether you're making them as a thoughtful gift or simply to brighten your home, paper flowers are a delightful craft that never fails to impress!

Materials: DIY Nursery Personalized Sign

I chose soft hues of pink, cream, and green. To enhance the floral theme, I included butterflies because, let's be honest, who doesn't love butterflies, especially little girls?

Wood

I began with a 16-inch unfinished wooden round for the sign, which you can easily find at a great price for a 6-pack on Amazon. Once you start, you'll be eager to create more personalized signs, so you'll be glad to have extras. I painted mine, but you don't need to.

Paper

The paper that I used was 65lb Recollections “Roses” cardstock in shades of pale pink, cream, and white. This is one of my absolute favorite color packs. The pale colors speak to me. I also incorporated some leftover glitter cardstock and shades of green for the leaves and butterflies.

Cutting Machine

To create my flowers, leaves, and butterfly elements, I used my Cricut Maker 3. The Cricut is a great way to cut uniform patterns quickly. If you haven’t discovered the possibilities of the Cricut Maker yet, you’re definitely missing out!

Kraft Board

To create the name, I used kraft board and cut it on my Cricut Maker 3. You can use any rigid material that you can cut on your Cricut machine or by hand. I happen to like the Cricut Kraft Board.

Tip: You can cut multiple layers and stack them to create more of a 3D effect.

Flower Templates

If you prefer to use the same flowers I did, the templates are below. The flower templates (5.5 inches and 4 inches) are provided in PDF and SVG format. If you're using a Cricut machine, you can use the SVG file. I included the PDF if you choose to cut your flower pieces by hand. I suggest cutting 5-6 flower shapes for each flower.

Butterflies and Leaves

I used Cricut Design Space and searched "leave stems," and there was much to choose from. I did the same for the butterflies by searching "layered butterfly".

Other Supplies

Creating the Flowers

  1. Use a curling tool to form the petals. Alternate by curling some upwards and some downward.

  2. Begin crafting your flower by shaping the first petal set into a bud.

  3. Wrap the remaining three petals loosely around the bud and glue in place.

  4. Place the bud on top of another petal set and glue it in the center to hold it in place.

  5. Continue wrapping the petals around the previous petals in the shape of a flower and gluing them in place. There is no right or wrong way to do this; just go with what you think looks good.

  6. When you're done, it should look something like this (#6).
